Cherish Apple Crumble

This is a delicious dessert. The lightly spiced, slightly caramelised apple filling is guaranteed to put a smile on everyone’s faces.

Ingredients

5-6 Cherish apples

½ cup plain flour
¼ cup rolled oats
¼ cup desiccated coconut
¼ cup brown sugar
½ tsp cinnamon½ tsp ground ginger
¼ tsp ground nutmeg
75g butter
2 Tbsp golden syrup
2 Tbsp demerara sugar

Method

  1. Pre-heat oven to 190°C conventional or 170ºC fan-forced.
  2. In a bowl, mix the flour, oats, coconut, brown sugar and cinnamon together, then rub in the butter until the mixture becomes combined and crumbly.
  3. Peel and cut apples into wedges and place in an oven-proof dish. Drizzle with the golden syrup.
  4. Spread the crumble mixture over the top of the apples. Sprinkle the demerara sugar over the top for an extra crunchy topping. Bake for 40-45 minutes until apples are cooked.
  5. Serve while hot with vanilla ice-cream, cream or custard.
